Like all holidays, this time of year can be magical and difficult all at the same time. After another year of ongoing economic challenges, many individuals and families are worn down.
But as Calgarians, we are a resilient bunch! We’re hard-working, and we continue to have grit in the face of adversity. The same can be said about the many local businesses out there who are digging in and in the trenches too.
While it’s easy to hop on ‘The Amazon’ and make your Christmas purchases, don’t forget about some of our incredible local establishments. Some have been around for years, offering the best in class products and services. Along 17 Ave, we have wonderful stores such as Reid’s Stationers, Rubaiyat, Stealing Home, Purr, and many others.
While there are closures, business districts like Kensington and Inglewood forge on through the downturn as well – with vibrant stores bringing us great finds now and throughout the year.
Grocers like Sunterra, Kalamata Grocery, Bridgeland Market, Blush Lane, The Italian Super Market; they bring it all together for the table. And restaurants like Aida’s, Villa Firenze, Spiros, Cesars, Bonterra, Sidewalk Citizen, and Hy’s, to name but a few, always provide the perfect setting for any festive gathering.
So while budgets may be limited, please do what you can to support our local businesses this season. We’re in this together, Calgary!
