Recently, I was out with a group of friends, and I overheard one of them mention that he’d just sold his house.
To be fair, he’s more of a friend of a friend. It’s not like we hang out together regularly (or ever, really). But it still hurt my feelings! I mean, what the hell? It’s not just that this is how I make a living. I’m also pretty darn good at it if I do say so myself.
I reminded him, “Hey, you know I’m a professional real estate agent, right?”
He responded, “Yes, I know Ted, but believe me, you would not have wanted to sell my house!” He said it with such conviction.
I thought to myself, “Well, why the heck not?” But I didn’t press it any further.
It seems that many people think I only sell the fanciest and most expensive houses (?). I guess this is my own fault because we tend to use fancy houses in our advertising.
But the reality is that I get psyched about EVERY listing because each one presents a new and unique challenge. That’s part of the fun for me: developing a specific game plan to deliver the best possible result in every different circumstance.
Sure, it’s great fun to sell fancy expensive listings! I won’t deny that. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, two of my biggest success stories this year were from the two most highly distressed listings I’ve sold for a long time. Both were in terrible condition, but the sellers trusted me, and I devised a solid individualized game plan for each one. And they both sold for—quite honestly—ridiculously high prices, far exceeding even my own most optimistic expectations!
Both of my clients were over the moon! And so was I!
The point is that I get psyched to sell EVERY property, no matter what it is. The challenge of devising a unique strategy is what keeps me excited and in the game!
So, please don’t hesitate to call me with any questions about ANY property, ANY time! I love them all!
